Opening and closing sentences bookmark this wordless picturebook: ‘Joe comes to the fair’ and ‘Joe goes home’. In between are spreads of typical fairground activities of the time.
You can see dodgems, a hall of mirrors, flying boats, spinning cars, a candy floss stall, carousel horses, a haunted castle, flying swings, a coconut shy, a green ‘caterpillar’ ride, a goldfish hoopla game, swing boats, and a man selling balloons.
Because the images are so colourful, and because they are full-bleed (going right to the edges of the page), this book feels like a truly immersive experience.
